Have an Accident?

Step one: Contact the Insurance Company

Whom ever is at fault is the insurance provider that should be contacted. This is how you will initiate a claim to get things started.

Was the accident your fault? Your insurance provider will take care of you and the other party. You will be responsible for paying the shop your deductible.

Was the accident the other party's fault? Their insurance should cover you and your vehicle. They should also provide you with a rental for the duration of the repairs.

Step two: Estimate

You do not have to obtain more than one estimate, unless your policy specifically states so. Make sure you call to schedule an estimate appointment.

Some insurance providers will write the initial estimate. The shop of your choice will start with that estimate. If there is any additional damages found the shop will reach out to the insurance company for a supplement.

Step three: Choosing a Shop

It is your car and your choice where you want to have it repaired. Chose a shop carefully. Make sure the shop is certified, knowledgable, and equipped to do manufacturer specified repairs. Make sure the shop offers warranties. Once you have chosen a shop make an appointment for repairs and make your rental reservations.

Step four: Repairs

When you drop your vehicle for repairs you will be asked to sign a Repair Authorization Form. Once the damaged parts are removed from the vehicle the shop will be able to look for any damage that may have been hidden. Once all damage is able to be noted, a repair time can then be calculated. The repair time is still only an estimated time frame. There are events that can occur outside of the shops control. Such as waiting on an insurance adjuster that wants to inspect the hidden damages, car parts that are on back order, and damaged parts that were delivered. Just remember that a shop can only give you an estimated completion date at the beginning of repairs. If additional damages are found the shop will notify you and the insurance company.

Most consumers assume that an insurance company is going to restore a vehicle to pre accident condition. However this usually isnt the case. Most insurance companies prefer aftermarket auto parts. If you are using your insurance coverage and prefer OEM parts, you will be required to pay the difference. Aftermarket auto parts have not been crash tested and should technically have warning labels.

After Repairs are Complete

The shop will notify you when your repairs are complete. At this time you will need to pay your deductible and/or any insurance checks that you recieved for repairs. If you recieved an insurance check you can just endorse the check over to the repair shop.

At this time you should recieve a written copy of your warranty. Our warrantys here at Grey's Auto Collision are limited lifetime warranties.
